Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) - PASS Security Training

Q1: What is an SIA licence, and why do I need it?
A: An SIA licence is a mandatory credential issued by the Security Industry Authority (SIA), the official regulator for the private security industry in the UK. You cannot work legally in most frontline security roles—such as Door Supervisor, Security Guard, or CCTV Operator—without this licence. Our training provides the qualification you need to apply for it.

Q2: What courses do you offer to get the licence?
A: We offer the officially recognised qualifications needed for your SIA licence application:

  • Door Supervisor Course: (Level 2 Award) - This is the most comprehensive and popular course, allowing you to work as both a Door Supervisor and a Security Guard.

  • Security Guarding Course: (Level 2 Award) - For those who specifically want to work as static security guards.

  • CCTV Operator Course: (Level 2 Award) - For roles in public space surveillance (CCTV).

Q3: What are the prerequisites to take a course?
A: You must:

  • Be 18 years or older.

  • Have a good understanding of the English language (both spoken and written) to complete the course and assessments.

  • Possess the right to work in the UK and provide valid ID (e.g., passport, driving licence, biometric residence permit).

Q4: How long are the courses?
A: The duration is set by the awarding body to ensure quality training.

  • Door Supervisor: 4 days of classroom training, plus assessment.

  • Security Guarding: 3 days of classroom training, plus assessment.

  • CCTV Operator: 3 days of classroom training, plus assessment.

Q5: What does the course fee include?
A: Our all-inclusive fee covers:

  • All expert tuition from experienced instructors.

  • All necessary training manuals and materials.

  • The cost of your exam and certification from the awarding body.

  • Support with your SIA licence application process.

Q6: What is the pass mark, and what happens if I fail?
A: The courses involve multiple-choice exams and practical assessments. The pass mark is set by the awarding body. If you do not pass a unit, we will provide support and an opportunity to re-sit the assessment. A small fee may be charged for re-sits to cover the awarding body's costs.

Q7: After I pass, how do I get my SIA licence?
A: Passing our course gives you the required qualification. You then must apply directly to the SIA for your licence. This is a separate process that involves an identity check and a criminal record check (DBS). We will guide you through this application process after you successfully complete your training.

Q8: I have a criminal record. Can I still get an SIA licence?
A: The SIA assesses each application on a case-by-case basis. Not all criminal convictions will prevent you from getting a licence, but failure to disclose them will. The key factors are the nature, severity, and date of the offence. We recommend being upfront and checking the SIA’s official website for guidance on suitability before booking your course.

Q9: What is your cancellation and refund policy?
A: We understand plans can change.

  • Cancellations 14+ days before the course: Full refund.

  • Cancellations 7-13 days before the course: 50% refund.

  • Cancellations less than 7 days before the course: No refund.

  • In exceptional circumstances, we may offer a credit for a future course at our discretion.

Q10: Do you offer any support for learners with disabilities or learning needs?
A: Absolutely. PASS Security is committed to inclusive learning. We can make reasonable adjustments, such as providing extra time for exams or arranging for a reader/scribe. Please contact us well in advance of your course date to discuss your specific needs confidentially so we can put the right support in place.

Q11: How are your trainers qualified?
A: Our trainers are not only fully qualified teachers/assessors but are also seasoned security professionals with years of real-world industry experience. They provide practical insights you won't find in a textbook, ensuring you are prepared for the realities of the job.

Q12: Do you help with finding a job after I'm qualified?
A: While we cannot guarantee employment, we are proud of our strong reputation within the security industry. We often have local security companies contacting us for qualified personnel, and we are happy to point our successful learners towards these potential job opportunities
